Bentonite
Bentonite
Bentonite is a water bearing clay mineral mainly composed of montmorillonite. The chemical composition of montmorillonite is (al2, mg3) si4o10oh2 · nH2O, because of its special properties. Such as swelling, adhesion, adsorption, catalysis, thixotropy, suspension and cation exchange. So it is widely used in various industrial fields.
Classification:
The type of bentonite depends on the type of interlayer cation. When the interlayer cation is Na +, it is called Na bentonite; When the interlayer cation is Ca2 +, it is called calcium bentonite; When the interlayer cation is H +, it is called hydrogen bentonite (active clay, natural bleaching clay acid clay); When interlayer cation is organic cation, it is called organic bentonite.
Development status:
The exploration research shows that the reserves of bentonite in China are the first in the world, with a complete range of types and wide distribution, covering 26 provinces and cities, and the output and export are among the top in the world. According to incomplete statistics, the annual output of bentonite in China has exceeded 3.5 million tons, and the total reserves account for 60% of the world total. Up to now, the accumulated proved reserves are more than 5.087 billion tons, and the retained reserves are more than 7 billion tons.
Industrial indicators:
The general industrial requirements for the quality of bentonite ore are measured by the content of montmorillonite in the ore
Cut off grade: ≥ 40%;
Industrial average grade: ≥ 50% o
The content of montmorillonite is usually converted by the amount of absorbing blue
M=B/K’100
Where m - relative content of montmorillonite in bentonite ore,%:
B - blue absorption, Mg equivalent / 100g sample:
K-conversion factor, 150.
Recoverable thickness: 1-2m;
Removal thickness of stone inclusion: ≥ 1m.
